Thanks to an alert gsport contributor, gsport is glad to confirm that Cricket South Africa has announced the selection of a preliminary national women’s T20 squad of twenty-two, following the recent Super 4’s Tournament on 30 and 31 January.

Confirming their selection to the chosen few, national Convenor of Selectors, Denise Reid, wrote to the players saying: “I have pleasure in informing you that you have been selected in the national squad.”

Speaking to gsport, Reid said that the squad members should expect further camps planned with the ICC’s T20 World Cup in St. Kitts, West Indies from 5 till 16 May 2010, as its focus.

“We have two camps planned in February, before a final camp in March, at which the squad of 14 for the World Cup will be announced. We’ll be focusing on fitness straining and continued assessment of candidates, as there are still a couple of places in different roles up for grabs.

“The other World Cup contenders already had commitments in place, and though we wanted a few international preparation fixtures, this was not possible,” said Reid.

Reid was complimentary of the Highveld team which took the 2010 T20 Super 4’s title in Kimberley on the weekend, where a rain-affected final against East Coast went the way of the Gauteng outfit.

Concerned South African  - Stats....   |2010-02-08 23:27:23
I'm kinda concerned.. Would like to know on what terms the SA ladies gets
chosen. If you have a look at the batting / bowling / fielding stats half of
them doesnt even feature on the top 20? Looking for the "experienced"
players, such as Loubser, Smith, Britz etc? Where are they on stats? If these
players cant perform on Provincial level, where some teams are very weak, how
will they ever move up from 7th in the world?
I hope there is others who sees
my concern...
